"The Invisible Man"
Even though H.G.Wells would want no part of it, his The Invisible Man has been adapted with flair and common sense for television. David McCallum plays the here-today, gone-today scientist who discovered the secret of invisibility and then proceeded to turn it on himself with fluctuating success. Each week he'll try to perfect his disappearing act while an entire world of bad guys tries to learn his formula. The first-rate technical gimcrackery necessary to carry all this off is a marvel to watch and, as escapist entertainment, this type of wizardry can't be beaten. The best trick of all, of course, would be for "The Invisible Man" to use his discovery on "Rhoda" and "Phyllis," which will be all too visible competition on CBS. Debuts Sept. 8 on NBC.
